Pyrite Crystal Specimen – Huanzala Mine, Peru

Weight: 4.23 kg
Country of origin: Peru

A well-balanced multi-mineral specimen featuring distinct pyrite crystal clusters distributed across a quartz-rich matrix. The pyrite crystals are predominantly cubic, with clear striations and a bright metallic luster, forming structured groupings with good visual definition.

Chalcopyrite appears as subtle, brassy-toned intergrowths, adding warmth and tonal variation to the composition. Sphalerite is present in darker crystalline phases, concentrated in localized zones that provide contrast and depth between the pyrite clusters.

The matrix is extensively covered with fine crystalline quartz, creating a granular, light-toned background that enhances the visibility and separation of the sulfide crystals. This contrast between metallic and non-metallic phases gives the specimen a layered and readable structure.

From the Huanzala Mine, this piece reflects a typical hydrothermal sequence, where early sulfide mineralization was followed by later quartz deposition. The result is a specimen that combines mineral diversity with clear structural organization.

Part of our Huanzala Study Collection, this specimen represents a strong and complete example within the release, combining size, multi-mineral association, and well-developed surface coverage.
